Silicone
Nonporous silicone is valued for a smooth finish and easy cleaning. Unless the maker confirms compatibility, pair it with a water-based lubricant rather than a silicone-based formula.
Look for: care instructions, grade claims, seams, and charging-port guidance.
ABS plastic
A firm, nonporous plastic commonly used for handles, controls, and rigid products. It is generally easy to wipe clean when the surface is intact.
Look for: coatings, battery compartments, and water-resistance limits.
Stainless steel
Firm, weighty, nonporous, and responsive to temperature. Inspect polished surfaces before every use and avoid sudden temperature extremes.
Look for: smooth joins, weight, dimensions, and storage protection.
Borosilicate glass
Rigid and nonporous when manufactured for intimate use. Check for chips, cracks, or rough areas before every use and retire damaged pieces immediately.
Look for: maker care advice and impact-safe storage.
TPE and TPR
Soft, flexible materials that may be more porous than silicone. Clean promptly, dry fully, store separately, and follow the replacement guidance from the maker.
Look for: exact composition, surface condition, and storage instructions.
Oils, waxes, and body formulas
Suitability depends on ingredients and intended use. Fragrance, botanical extracts, and oil bases can matter for sensitive skin and barrier-method compatibility.
Look for: full ingredient list, allergens, external-use wording, and patch-test advice.
